Conditions can change fast at sea, so it’s important to bring extra layers of clothes, including a waterproof layer, in case it gets cold or you’re travelling into the wind and spray. A sunny day on the sea, coupled with a gentle breeze, makes for ideal sunburn conditions, so it’s important to wear hats and long-sleeved shirts and regularly apply sunscreen. (Don’t forget — it’s easy to get sunburnt on overcast days too.) We also recommend wearing polarised sunglasses because the reflection of the sun on the water can cause glare and damage your eyes.
